LEIGH & DISTRICT

2005 had a field of 22 from 26 qualifying competitions. Agnes Lord became the 2nd lady to make the semi-finals by beating Frank Lyon (13) in the first round, John Smith (16) in the second round before losing (10) to Frank Naylor in the semi. Frank Naylor won the competition for the 2nd time beating John Platt (12) in the final.

The prelim jinx, has it has come to be known, got the better of John and he could only get half way up in a disappointing final. The jinx at this point had claimed 4 victims Bill Clegg (2000), Billy Rigby (2002), Joe Monaghan (2004) and this year John Platt. The only player to beat the jinx up to this year was John Heathcote (2001).
