LEIGH & DISTRICT
BOWLSWITHIN
The late GERRY HOUGHTON - Winner 2010
Leigh & District Champion of Champions
THE CONCEPT was the brain child of the late Colin Grimshaw during the 1998 bowling season. The nucleus for his idea was the BCGBA Champion of Champions held at Waterloo, Blackpool and with the idea in its infancy he secured the support of the leagues in the area and the competition was formed.

The competition, for which entry would be by invitation only, would be for bowlers that have won (no runners up) an individual event organised by any of the supporting leagues. To fund the competition, the leagues would sponsor their events and book a place in the competition at the start of each season. The entry fee was set at £7.50 per entry (later to rise to £10 due to the loss of sponsorship). The initial organising group consisted of Brian Davies (Treasurer 1998-2007). Tony Hodgetts (Secretary 1998 - to date) and Colin (Chairman 1998-2002). Leigh Bowling Club was approached to host the competition and became the home of The Leigh and District Champion of Champions.

Tony Hodgetts was tasked to find a trophy fitting enough for such a prestigious event. Ingersoll Rand European Sales were kind enough to provide the trophy and continued to provide the gold and silver finalist medals up until 2006. Tony still organises the competiton today.
