The 2007 Event

2007 brought debutant John Hayes to the competition. John has been a prolific bowler over the years and amazingly has been constantly overlooked by the Lancashire selectors.

This was John’s first ever visit to Leigh Bowling Club and it started with a tough but convincing first round victory against homester Colin Grimshaw. He followed this up with a second round win against another bowler with vast green experience, Billy Rigby. However he met up against the now Champion of Champion veteran qualifier John (Cash) McCaul in the semi-final and his debut winning streak came to an end.

Seasoned bowler and previous winner, Albert Prescott was Cash’s opponent in the final. Albert had seen off Jimmy Glover, Garth Smith and Frank Naylor on his way to the final. Albert was in no mood to let Cash secure his first final win and Albert put his name on the trophy for a 2nd time.
